PARKING LOT PSALM

Despite inclining towards a red

balloon in preference to our lives,

despite the awful way we begged,

repeatedly, that you would let us give

it chase, despite the way we thrashed

about and writhed our hairless wrists

and threw our toddler weight against

your grip, you never let us run across

the interstate. Thank you. It’s almost

like You knew a thing we couldn't yet.
